Finals Day 2018

Wensleydale League Finals Day

On Sunday 2nd September the club hosted the league finals day for the second year running.

Due to a last minute withdrawal from one of the teams Scruton were also asked to enter a team.

We played in the first semi final against first division Brompton on Swale. After a shaky start Jacob Mellor made 27 and Jamie Jenkin 22 to help us post 102 in our 18 overs.

Geoff Minnis then got a wicket with the first ball of the Brompton innings, however this brought Dan Rafiq to the crease. He proceeded to smash the ball to all parts and made 53* to ensure Brompton reached the final.

In the second semi final first division Masham made short work of a combined Newton le Willows/Thorp Perrow Team. The Newton/Thorp Team had been thrown together at the last minute following another late withdrawal. They made 58 which Masham knocked off comfortably.

The all first division final saw Brompton on Swale bat first and make 130. Masham’s reply started slowly and they never really got up with the run rate finishing on 115.

After the final the league presentations took place. Scruton picked up three awards. Jacob Newnam was Young Player of the year and Ian Place was both Senior(over 40) and overall Player of the year.

This capped a wonderful day for the club with many spectators enjoying the day. Many thanks to all those club members who helped with teas, barbecue, umpiring and scoring.

Roll on 2019!
